Past simple of common irregular verbs
be → was/were begin → began bring → brought come → came
feel → felt find → found get → got give → gave
go → went hear → heard keep → kept know → knew
make → made mean → meant meet → met put → put
read → read say → said see → saw speak → spoke
take → took tell → told think → thought write → wrote
  1. The past simple form of irregular verbs is constant and doesn't change with the pronoun
  • I took a taxi to the airport
  • He spoke in a soft voice
  • They gave me the tickets
  1. The negatives are all formed with 'did' + 'not' + infinitive without 'to' 
  • I didn't see your car
  • She didn't know the answer 
  1. Questions are formed with 'did' + pronoun + infinitive without 'to'
  • Why did you go to his house?
  • Did you have enough food?
  1. The verb 'to be' has different forms for the past simple (was/were)
  • I / He / She was home all day
  • You / We / They were home all day
