Expressions with 'as'
- There are many expressions formed using the conjunction 'as'. The most common are:
'As' by itself can mean 'because', 'while' or 'like'
- You can go first as you're the oldest (because)
- I saw him as I was coming into the building (while)
- This year, as in previous years, tickets sold very quickly (like)
'As for' means 'considering' or 'about'
- I will clean the bedroom, as for the garbage, can you please take it out?
'As if' is used to describe how a situation seems to be or 'looks like'
- They looked at me as if I was crazy
'As long as' means 'if', 'only if' or 'but only if'
- You can have a dog as long as you promise to take care of it
'As of' means starting from a particular time or date
- As of next month, all the prices will go up
'As to' means 'relating to'
- There is disagreement as to the causes of the fire
'As well as' means 'in addition to' or 'also'
- We have a responsibility to our community as well as to our families
