The finale of the 2017 Oscars has always been the award for Best Picture. As viewers applauded this year's announced winner, 'La La Land', their cheers quickly turned to murmurs of confusion as the film's producer, Jordan Horowitz, announced that a mistake had been made. He then called up the cast and crew of the film 'Moonlight' that was the actual winner.

Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC) is the company responsible for counting the Oscar Votes. PwC representatives give announcers the correct envelopes containing the award winners. The representative safeguarding the results that night gave actor Warren Beatty the envelope for Best Supporting Actress instead of Best Picture. Spectators could see Beatty hesitate before handing the envelope to Faye Dunaway to announce the mistaken winner. He later admitted that he had realized the title on the envelope was incorrect.
