On June 14, 1947, William Brazel, a worker on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico, noticed clusters of debris. He reported his findings to local Sheriff Wilcox and told him it    the remains of a flying disc.
Wilcox called the Roswell Army Air Force to report Brazel's find and was told the debris    the remains of a weather balloon.
Brazel    to return to the debris site and collect some of it because pieces of the debris (including tinfoil, rubber, and rough paper sticks) were found in his ranch and handled by neighbors.
Over the years, books, articles, and television specials brought the 1947 incident significant notoriety. By the mid-1990s, public polls such as a 1997 CNN/Time poll, revealed that the majority of people interviewed believed that aliens had indeed visited Earth, and that aliens landed at Roswell, but that the US government    all the relevant information secret.
Conspiracy theorists believe the debris    from a weather balloon due to hundreds of eye witness accounts claiming to have seen UFO-like objects in the sky near Roswell that day.
Although there is no evidence that a UFO crashed at Roswell, some firmly hold to the belief that one    and that the truth has been concealed as a result of a government conspiracy.
