In 1862, a woman named Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted for    her parents. Despite facing significant ostracism following her acquittal, Lizzie Borden    and lived elsewhere but she chose to remain in her town of Fall RIver, Massachusetts.

When investigated by police, Lizzie said she    something that sounded like a groan or scratching sound, but later changed her story and said she had heard nothing.

Bridget Sullivan, a live-in maid, was also questioned but investigators determined early on that it    her. It is unclear whether or not the handless hatchet found in the basement was the same one used to slay the Bordens because the killer    the handle because it was bloody.

Bridget left Lizzie and her father downstairs in the living area at 10:58 a.m. Lizzie said she went to the barn shortly after.
